A successful landscape project is about more than the finished installation. Material selection, scale, color, craftsmanship, and long-term performance all play a role in how an outdoor space comes together and how it continues to look over time.
At Davis, Glacier Mountain from Quarry Connections was selected for a residential landscape project that brings a refined, light-toned character to the hardscape while maintaining the natural variation and durability of quality stone.
The project brings together the work of Huntlands Landscape Architecture, Stonework by Santo, and Kingston Custom Homes, with Quarry Connections supplying the Glacier Mountain used throughout the project.
The Project
The Davis project showcases Glacier Mountain in a completed residential landscape, where the stone works alongside the surrounding architecture and plantings rather than competing with them.
With its light off-white color and subtle gray veining, Glacier Mountain provides a clean foundation for the outdoor space. The natural variation throughout the material keeps the installation from feeling overly uniform, while the lighter overall color gives the hardscape a more open and refined appearance.
The scale of the stone also contributes to the finished look. Larger pieces can create a strong sense of continuity across an outdoor space, with fewer joints interrupting the surface. This makes Glacier Mountain particularly effective when the goal is to create a substantial hardscape that still feels connected to the surrounding landscape.
Rather than relying on color or pattern alone, the project demonstrates how the right stone can help establish the overall character of an outdoor space.
The Stone: Glacier Mountain
Glacier Mountain is an off-white natural stone with subtle gray veining that offers a distinctive alternative to darker or more heavily variegated flagstone options.
The material is available in irregular flagstone formats, with larger pieces that can range from approximately 24″ x 30″ up to 36″ x 60″. The large-format options allow contractors and stone masons to work with substantial pieces when the project calls for a broader, more continuous surface. Glacier Mountain is also available with a thermal finish and sawn back, providing a more consistent surface and thickness for installation.
The combination of color, scale, and finish makes Glacier Mountain adaptable to a range of outdoor applications. Its lighter color can complement contemporary and traditional architecture alike, while the natural veining adds enough variation to keep the finished installation from appearing flat or manufactured.
For landscape architects and designers, that balance can be especially useful. The stone has enough character to make an impact, but its restrained color palette allows the architecture, planting, and other landscape elements to remain part of the overall composition.
A Look More Than a Year Later
One of the most useful aspects of this project is the timing of the photography.
The project was photographed by Huntlands Landscape Architecture in May, more than a year after the Glacier Mountain was installed and less than a year after the project was completed.
That perspective provides a better look at the material in a finished landscape—not immediately after installation, but after it has had time to become part of the property.
For architects, landscape designers, contractors, and homeowners evaluating stone for a long-term project, seeing a material after installation can be just as valuable as seeing it when the work is brand new.
Glacier Mountain for Outdoor Projects
Glacier Mountain offers a combination of clean color, large-format options, and a durable thermal finish that makes it well suited to elevated residential landscapes and other projects where the hardscape needs to balance refined appearance with practical performance.
Quarry Connections stocks Glacier Mountain for projects throughout Maryland, Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, and Delaware, with multiple formats available depending on the application.
Whether the project calls for large irregular flagstone or a more structured pattern, Glacier Mountain gives design and construction teams a versatile material to work with.
